Gerson is the Executive Vice President of Abengoa Bioenergy New Technologies (formerly known as Abengoa Bioenergy R&D). In this capacity he leads a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientist based in the US and Europe in the research, development, demonstration, and commercialization activities of renewable biomass resources to ethanol, related co-products, and utilization technologies.

Prior to Abengoa, he led the Biofuels Program at the U.S. Department of Energy where he was responsible for the development and implementation of the program strategic plan, technology, and business management process.

Based in Spain, Abengoa Bioenergy is a global producer and technology company and is the second largest producer of ethanol in the world, with production facilities in the United States and Europe.

Abengoa Bioenergy New Technologies was chosen by the US Department of Energy in 2007 as one of six biorefinery projects over the next four years to receive federal funding. The plant will use 700 tons per day of corn stover, wheat straw, milo stubble, switchgrass, and other feedstocks.

Petri has 22 years of experience in bioenergy consulting and engineering. He held the position of Chairman of the Finnish Bioenergy Association from 2000 to 2006, and represented Finnish bioenergy stakeholders in various committees of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Parliament.
